A Rare Kind of Courage, Putting Malaysians to Shame

We refer to the news report in Malaysiakini today headlined "Pusrawi's Dr. Osman appears in public".  We are stunned by the courage of Dr Osman to stand by his statutory declaration detailing his medical examination of Saiful, which medical report concluded that there was no sodomy.

It is refreshing that there is a doctor of courage who stands stout in his principles of speaking only the truth and stands firm in his professional ethics.   For most of us, as we are sure it was for Dr Osman, probably the only questioning by police that we have faced in our lives are when we are stopped by the traffic policeman for infringing traffic rules.  Therefore one can only imagine how deeply stressful and distressing it must have been for him to have to face 3 rounds of interview by the police and being made to sign statements in Bahasa Malaysia which he is not fluent in.  Most of us would have buckled under in such circumstances.

And yet stand up he did.  To the extent of affirming a Statutory Declaration and standing by his medical report.  How many of us Malaysians today have the courage to stand up and speak up when the truth is being trampled upon?  And yet it took a Myanmar Doctor to show us courage in a matter that is very much a Malaysian issue.  How shameful for us as Malaysians!

We, the members of 7 MCA PJ Utara branches, applaud the good doctor and his courage in speaking the truth, putting us Malaysians to shame!  If memory serves us right, we believe there might have been earlier reports stating that he has been sacked by Hospital Pusrawi.  If indeed he has been sacked, this would mean that for speaking the truth, he is not just getting regular visits from the police, but also lost his job!  It seems such a thankless task to stand up for the truth, and most of us would not have done such a thankless task. To show that we are not just all talk, if indeed he has been sacked, we will pass the hat around among our MCA members, and then perhaps we can pass a token sum to him as an appreciation from MCA and ashamed Malaysians!

Is the doctor already a Malaysian? Or is he still a Myanmar citizen. I would urge this blog to clear this fact first before making statements like, "It takes a Myanmar doctor to tell us Malaysians...."

To make this statement IF the doctor is already a converted Malaysian makes you no difference from the remarks of "Pendatang" made by irresponsible ppl recently. IF he has already converted, he is a fellow Malaysian, no matter his background, race, color and creed.

IF he has not converted to a Malaysian, it is still not right to make that statement. You're indirectly implying that Myanmar are a lower class ppl than we Malaysian.

I pretty much admire the courage of this blog so far but this has really turned me off. You're still at a moral high ground to make judgement of the "racist" and "xenophopic" leaders of Malaysia until now that you're displayed the same mindset.

Please be consistent in your stand and always do a check on what you're fighting for. Else you'll stoop to be the same level as our leaders.

bro-in-law:

How you deem it xenophobic is beyond us. It can be a Myanmar doctor, it can be a Singapore Doctor, it can be a London doctor, the fact is that it takes a foreign doctor to stand up for a malaysian issue. How you can read more into that statement is really beyond our comprehension. Only xenophobic people will interpret it as a xenophobic statement. And yes, it is a fact that the good doctor is still a Myanmar citizen, and still waiting for his Malaysian PR. AS is his whole family.

Well, if your conscience is clear, then I am 100% on your side.

Just feel that we should be careful not to fall into the trap of what those idiots have fallen into when they are in power.

This blog should set out to read sense into people, and not to provoke further resentment.

Trust me, I am as much frustrated as you are. But I feel that in times like this, some "controlled aggression" is more powerful and value-adding.

To bitch is easy. But to influence the masses and to bring across your point takes more than bitching.

This is a good site. A good course started out well. And I would feel sorry for you if this blog becomes another run-of-the-mill blog that bitch about the government.

Blogs like Jeff's, Aisehman, Nathaniel, RPK! etc, gave INSIGHTS for the masses to make DECISIONS.

What's the "raison d'etre" of this blog?

I am with you. I know your struggle. But I feel we could fought a better fight than this.

4 months on after the big hoo-haa, that doctor and his family's still living the nightmare.
Apparently Pusrawi suspended him indefinately. He decided to resign after a few weeks, with hope of getting a new job else where.
But, from what I know, he is still unemployed with not even any part-time calls. It seems that the potential employers are afraid that the doctor's being monitored.
living in family who all depend on him as their sole breadwinner, situation doesnt seem too good for them.
I guess this is what one gets for telling truth in malaysia. MH- Malaysian Hospitality.

PS: and u did NOT heard this from me.
